Fired up the rather nice Server Monitoring tools that come with OSX Server -- they keep an eye on my two xserves, one a twin proc g4 with 4 discs in 2 mirrors, and the other is a single proc g5 with 3 discs, one of them boot and two in a data mirror. Woooooo.... red flashy lights. Seems the first two dimms in the G4 xserve have gone dicky - the box takes 4 dimms, and it has 4 x 512mb in there. Pull the box out of the rack, and its the original apple-supplied ram thats gone duff. Pull em out, reload the box into the rack, reboot and everything is happy. What is rather nice is that the box just kept going through all of this. Without even so much as a glimmer of angst. Apple xserves on dual-core Intel are going to be niiiiiiice. Cant wait.
